The type species of Agonotomus Signoret, 1861 was catalogued in Cletus Stål by Walker (1871: 94), implying the generic synonymy which has never been formally stated. Linnavuori (1978: 26) reduced Cletomorpha Mayr, 1866 to synonymy with Cletus.
