Cimex gonymelas Donovan, 1798 was synonymized with Dicranocephalus nugax (Fabricius, 1781) by Stephens (1829a: 341) and hence has traditionally been regarded as synonymous with D. agilis (Scopoli, 1763). A specimen in BMNH from the type locality is conspecific with D. medius (Mulsant & Rey, 1870) (Lansbury, 1966e: 89). Some records from eastern Asia are based on material that may not be conspecific. The record fom Canary Islands by Moulet (1995a) has to be confirmed.
