Contrary to the opinion of Gulde (1937: 160), Rhyparochromus pini var. contrarius (Schumacher, 1913), described from Poland (Schumacher, 1913c: 672) and type material not located (not found in ZMHB, probably lost), is not considered a synonym of intermedius.
