The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (Opinion 253/1954) designated Litosoma bicolor Douglas & Scott, 1868 as type species of Pachylops. This ruling was based on the wrong assumption that Fieber misidentified the type species of Pachylops. A proposal by Carapezza & Kerzhner (1998) to abolish the ruling given in Opinion 253 is currently considered by the Commission.
