Records of Mesovelia furcata from N Africa and the Middle East need verification. Some confusion exists about the correct name of this species. Mulsant & Rey (1852: 139) described it under the name Microvelia fuscata. However, under "Errata" in the same publication (page without number after page 310) it says "page 139 ligne 22 microvelia fuscata, lisez mesovelia furcata". According to the Code (ICZN, Art. 32c), "fuscata" thus constitutes an "incorrect original spelling" and is therefore unavailable.
