Comb. nov. According to the original description this species was placed in a separate genus because of substantial differences with Oncocephalus species. However, none of the listed characters is unique for Oncocephalus wangi. Some species, e.g. the mediterranean Oncocephalus squalidus (Rossi), show an almost similar combination of characters.
