In USNM there is a female of this species labelled "Soc. Roy. Entom. d'Egypte, Faune d'Egypte. Don Dr. Av. G. Ferrante 1927", "Atanase Alfieri collection 1962", "Phorticus minutulus Reut."(identification by A. Alfieri). The record may refer actually to Sudan (at that time part of Egypt), but it is also not excluded that the only record of Phorticus velutinus from Egypt (Priesner & Alfieri, 1953) was based on a misidentification of Ph. pulchellus.
