Moulet (1995b) reduced Dicranocephalus brevinotum Lindberg, 1935 to synonymy with this species; Tshernova (1996) reinstated it. The older synonyms and even the name agilis itself may refer to other species. Records from Malta, all North Africa and Israel refer to the form first described as femoralis (Noualhier, 1893) (= femoratus (Puton, 1899); moralesi Wagner, 1950; africanus Stichel, 1959; litoralis Linnavuori, 1960).
