Alydus Fabricius, 1803, with type species Cimex calcaratus Linnaeus, 1758, was placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology (International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1950: 467). It was again placed on the list, with gender specified as masculine, by Opinion 244 (1954) which also suppressed the genus Coriscus Schrank, 1796, held by some authors to be a senior synonym of Alydus Fabricius, 1803.
