Previous records of Gerris gibbifer Schummel from SE Europe, N Africa, and the Middle East probably apply to Gerris maculatus Tamanini. Records from Asian Turkey (Önder et al., 2006, Kıyak et al., 2007, 2008; Salur & Mesci, 2009) and Iran (Sakenin et al., 2011b; Samin et al., 2011) are erroneous (Fent et al., 2011).
