Gerris costae arvernensis Poisson, 1957 was described from the French Massif Centrale. Klingenberg (1992), however was unable to find a clear morphometric separation of the populations from the French Massif Centrale from those of the British Isles. Gerris costae arvernensis Poisson, 1957 is therefore synonymized with G. costae poissoni. Specimens from Morocco (Gheit, 1995) may refer to this subspecies.
