The status of this taxon needs further discussion. American authors and Vinokurov consider it a good species; Schmitz & Péricart (1993), having studied the types and some Swedish material, think that it probably represents a northern subspecies of ericae, but consider a study of populations of arctic parts of Eurasia and America necessary to solve the case.
