According to Josifov in Kerzhner & Josifov (1999: 417), two closely related but separate species are involved: Psallus alnicola (Bulgaria! Czech Republic Denmark France Great Britain Germany Ireland Netherlands Norway Poland Russia Spain Sweden) and P. scholtzi (Austria Finland France Germany Netherlands Poland! Romania Russia Sweden Switzerland), but it is not clear to which one P. salicis is the senior synonym.
