The "heath form" of Coranus subapterus (De Geer) (see Woodroffe, 1959a: 125) partially belongs to this species. The records from Czech Republic and Slovakia (Stehlík & Vavřínová, 1997a, 1998b) belong to C. aethiops (Hradil et al., 2008).
