The species was downgraded to subspecies of Oncocephalus squalidus (Rossi) by Dispons (1950: 261) and to form of the latter by Dispons & Stichel (1959: 177). It is restored here by A. Carapezza, who examined the LT and found that the specimen does not belong to O. squalidus. It is a species very close (or identical?) to O. putoni Reuter.
