This species has been the subject of much taxonomic controversy, before its status was cleared by Herring (1965). Nevertheless, according to Péricart (1972: 269, footnote) and opposite to Herring's indication, Xylocoris fumipennis Walker, 1872: 160, described from Ceylon, is not a synonym of A. constrictus. Also, contrary to Reuter (1884c: 193), Asthenidea pallescens Reuter, 1884 is not a synonym of A. constrictus. The record from the Czech Republic (Jindra & Kabíček, 2001) was based on a misidentified specimen of A. obscuriceps (Poppius) (Kment et al., 2005b).
