J.T. Polhemus & Kerzhner (1995) have requested the ICZN to suppress all usage, including homonymy, of the species group name Nepa rustica Fabricius before 1781, as all references to the name before that date refer to a New World species, presumably Belostoma stollii (Amyot & Serville, 1843) and also to suppress the species group name Nepa plana Sulzer, 1776, in order to conserve Nepa rustica Fabricius, 1781.
