Fieber (1851c) originally described S. helferii from specimens from Italy, Sicily, and Dalmatia. Wagner (1953o) was unable to locate any specimens from the Fieber collection with those localities, but he selected a specimen from Puton’s collection labeled Madega to be lectotype. Although no one seems to know where Madega is located, Péricart (2002a) recognized Wagner’s lectotype designation as being valid. A probable syntype male of S. helferii is present in ZMUM (Derzhansky, 1994). Records from the former USSR are erroneous (Derzhansky, 1994).
