Family SCHIZOPTERIDAE Reuter, 1891
I.M. Kerzhner
A family with a pantropical distribution, of which a few representatives are found in the southern part of Palaearctic Region. The species are living terrestrial in litter, but many taxa are known only from material collected at light. Up to three subfamilies are distinguished, but the subfamily Ogeriinae Emsley, 1969 (to which in the Palaearctic fauna belong at least Kokeshia and Pachyplagia) is tentatively united by Štys (1989) with Schizopterinae, because for many genera it is not clarified to which subfamily they belong. An account on morphology and a catalogue were published by Emsley (1969).
